Peptide care

Finding & checking care

Name the medicine

What a peptide is

A chemistry word, not a care plan.

When someone offers peptide therapy, ask them to name the product and the problem it is meant to address. The broad term leaves too much unsaid.

What the word tells you

Peptides are short chains made from the parts that also build proteins. Insulin belongs to this group.

As of September 2026, US drug rules depended on the exact product: was it an approved medicine, a lawful medicine made to order, or an unapproved drug?

Ask for the generic name. That is the ingredient’s name, rather than the name printed as a brand.

Some named products are approved medicines

US products with FDA approval as of September 2026 included semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) alongside tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound).

Approval is for a particular product and use; it does not extend to every product with the same ingredient name.

BPC-157, ipamorelin and retatrutide are ingredient names you may see in online peptide offers. As of September 2026, none had an FDA-approved medicine in the US.

When an offer names one of these ingredients, ask which health concern the proposed treatment addresses and which evidence supports using it for that concern.

Turn a broad offer into a useful question

  • What is the full ingredient name?
  • Which form and product are being discussed?
  • Is it an approved finished drug or a medicine made to order?
  • Why does it fit the health concern I brought?
