Finding & checking care

Find care

Find a route into care

Choose a setting. Then check it.

An in-person clinic and a licensed online service are routes to discuss a health concern. Compare how each will assess you, answer questions and arrange follow-up.

Ask what an in-person visit includes

If you already have a doctor, ask the office who can discuss your health concern. If you contact a new clinic, ask who will see you and what the visit includes.

Start with the concern, rather than a request for a product. Ask what happens during the visit and whether the price includes follow-up.

  • Who will see me?
  • Can I discuss options beyond the advertised medicine?
  • Where would any tests take place?
  • Which pharmacy would fill a prescription?

Ask how an online visit works

Telehealth means care given at a distance, through a call or an online exchange.

As of September 2026, HHS said your treating person needed a licence or other legal permission for the state where you were during the visit.

Ask whether you will speak live, send information for later review or use both. Ask how you can add a question of your own.

Run the same check in either setting

State medical boards are members of the Federation of State Medical Boards; it calls for the same care requirements online and in person.

Record the product, person treating you, pharmacy, full bill and follow-up plan. A setting is a starting point; these details give you something to compare.

Read the record

  • Read the location rule

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) explains permission to treat someone in another state. Ask the service which rule applies in the state where you will be.
